Chapter Twenty-One

Tars

He sipped at his beer, staring over the rim at Jordyn thoughtfully.

She was frustrated, and he couldn’t blame her. He was too. Though none of it had anything to do with each other.

I think our frustration is actually uniting us, he thought. Bringing them closer together over a shared problem.

It was one reason he’d decided against a fancy dinner or even bringing her back up the mountain to his home. Each of those options would result in some level of stress, and what the pair of them needed just then was the exact opposite of stress. They needed comfort, relaxation, and the ability to unwind.

So he’d brought her to the Dragon’s Eye. Although the locals didn’t know it, the Dragon’s Eye was a hangout for his kind. Most of the patrons at any given time were shifters or their mates. It was a place that Tars could come and just be himself, without having to fear giving himself away.

It also gave Jordyn a chance to hang around other dragons, to see them simply existing, and he hoped that would go a long way to assuaging any further doubts or questions she might have about him. Not that she’d given any indication she was struggling to accept what he was. In fact, he’d answered a barrage of questions over the past few days about life as a dragon.

Jordyn seemed fascinated, if anything.

“Got something on your mind?” Jordyn asked as his stare lingered on her for some time.

He smirked. “Just thinking that I didn’t want this assignment either. Though that was well before I met you. I was forced into it by Qymm. And yet, I met you.”

Jordyn smiled, blushing a little. “Well, I’m glad it worked out for you. And this Qymm seems like quite the woman.”

“Oh, she is. I dread the day you two meet.”

“I’m sure that your clan leader is a nice woman, but why would you dread us meeting?” Jordyn asked, tilting her head slightly to one side.

Tars blinked. “Did I not mention it at any point? I swear I did, but I don’t know, there’s been so many questions all over the place the past few days, I’m forgetting what I have and haven’t told you.”

“Mention what?” Jordyn asked warily.

“Qymm is the leader of Clan Rixa,” he explained. “But she’s also my sister.”

Jordyn sat upright. “No, Tars, you most certainly did not mention that.”

“Ah. Oops. Well, she is,” he said with a wave. “So there’s that.”

Jordyn smiled. “Yeah, now I definitely need to meet her.”

“Soon,” he said.

Not tonight though. Tonight they’d be going back to her place. Hopefully, she would invite him in again to spend some time together. Some intimate time together. Hopefully. He wasn’t counting on it though. They’d had a long day, and their frustrations had boiled over more than once. It could very well be that Jordyn simply wasn’t in the mood.

“It’s her fault for giving me this impossible task,” he added, bringing them back full circle to their search for mention of the Warped Fae and Clan Rixa in the old records.
